Descripció i   Metodologia:   Learning a language is way more than just learning a few words. Our job, as foreign language teachers, is to make our students feel comfortable not only with the language but also with the culture that surrounds it. Competence 10 and 11 from both primary and secondary English Curriculums include literature and culture as part of the language learning environment. How do you take the most of it in your English class? The most spread way of doing it is by making learners read readers, listen to songs, watch movies or TV programs. Do you need extra inspiration to spice up your activities after it? This is your summer course!
Join us, and you will be able to learn and share new, innovative and interesting different ways & approaches to make English language learning meaningful and engaging while fostering literature.
As Jerome Bruner claimed “Education must be not only a transmission of culture but also a provider of alternative views of the world and a strengthener of the will to explo

Objectius   1. To take the most of literature and culture in the English class
2. To create a competency-based task with literature and culture in mind
3. To assess tasks checking whether they are a competency-based proposals
4. To apply 2.0 tools efficiently

Continguts   Module 1: Getting to know each other and discovering the power of competence 10 & 11
Literature can help us develop our language teaching job so well. In this first module of the course you will get familiar with the competences in a very practical way.
What can culture have to do with learning languages? Is culture helping us develop our job better? We will discover real examples on how to develop such projects, with real outcomes from students from secondary and primary schools.

Module 2: Competency-based learning
We will revise what competency-based work and assessment is and discover why it is so important to develop meaningful acquisition in your learners. Let’s learn some tips on how to meet the competency based standards, dealing with the 7 principles of learning and the 21st C skills. Let’s also learn how to assess our students and help them be self-sufficient in developing their own learning.
Besides, the trainers will provide you a simple yet powerful canva where you could plan your teaching. Which competence would you like to work with your students? Which objectives?
You decide whether you want to deliver the task individually or in pairs/groups at the end of the summer course. We strongly recommend joining forces with one or two of your summer course partners. It could be a great chance to start building up new teaching networks in order to be able to do future telecollaborative projects together.

Module 3: Pool of real and proved to work examples for primary and secondary schools.
You will be provided with lots of real teaching proposals used and proved to be useful and work out very well.
Having technology on our side, we can transport our students into different parts of the world or even history. Don’t you find it cool developing stories for primary students from real Native American’s legends? How amazing is it to learn from Washington watching Hamilton the musical, and creating a presidential campaign after it? How wonderful it is to talk about the suffragettes and seeing them come alive in a TV series? Isn’t it grand to become journalists and discover how the 13th amendment changed the world of today thanks to the endless library of congress online material?
And, how can we make our students work with all that and become aware of the importance of culture when learning a language?

Module 4: The backstage
Once an idea is developing in our minds, how can we turn it into a reality? Let’s analyze how the teaching proposal examples provided have been created.
Do you want to make a quick game out of it and introduce the topic? Why don’t your use Metaverse, Flippity or Quizlet?
Do you want your students to create a text or an interactive image? What about Genially, Canva or Book creator?
Do you want them to use their phones to create a video for you? Adobe spark, Capcut, and Stop Motion will get the job done.
In this module you will have several tutorials on the digital tools used in the examples provided in module 3 and much more!

Module 5: Hands-on your teaching proposal
Finally, in here you will bring your project alive. How will your task be presented to your students? And more important, what will their final task become?
Our final goal is to help you find a real proposal you can use in your near future. You will create and design a mini task embracing one of the two literary competences making it engaging and fun for your students.
This is not busy work. It is meant to be a useful proposal to you and your real students.

Sure, by the end of the course you will get an interesting and ready-to-use teaching proposal that includes one of the two literary competences while applying innovative and creative tasks. Are you ready to start the adventure?
